Every year towards the end of winter, but before spring begins, there are little flowers that pop up in our flower bed. These early blooming flowers are the crocus.
Because their blooms are small, I use my 100mm macro lens to get a close picture. Our crocuses are growing in a mulched flower bed; and because they grow only several inches off the ground, getting a nice picture of a crocus without the mulch being in focus is difficult.
One way I get rid of the surrounding mulch is to take the picture exceptionally close.
Another way is to take a picture from the side of the bloom. By adjusting my composition, I can crop out the ground mulch.
